Publisher: Independent (Fab Four Press)
Release Date: October 29, 2024
Genre: Contemporary Christmas anthology

I'll Be Home

With chaos and confusion all around them, can they find their way home this Christmas?

The people in these four stories are all searching for something—an escaped convict, a job promotion from a love interest, connection to a lost parent, answers across time.

Christmas should be a time of wonder and celebration, but the obstacles each faces seem insurmountable. Even, at times, life-threatening.

Perhaps they will find what they are seeking during this season of miracles and hope. Or maybe, with God’s help, they will discover that the longing of their hearts takes them to places—and people—they didn’t even know they’d been searching for.

I’ll Be Home is a collection of four stories of faith, hope, love, (and trains) that will warm your heart, encourage your soul, and draw you home this Christmas.

My Adult Review

Davison, Sara, Darlene L. Turner, Helena Smrcek, and Melanie Stevenson. I’ll Be Home: four contemporary Christmas novellas of faith, hope, love (and trains). Fab Four Press, 2024.

If you are looking for a nice easy read for the holidays, I’ll Be Home would be perfect. I was able to read each of the novellas in just a couple hours making each of the stories a nice afternoon or evening read.

Mistletoe and Mayhem in the Rockies by Darlene L. Turner

I have never read anything by Darlene Turner before but I hope this will not be the last. I was hooked from the first page. Turner has a way of starting a story that makes you want to read more. I’m not usually a murder mystery reader but I enjoyed Mistletoe and Mayhem in the Rockies. While Turner did drop hints as to the solution to the mysteries I was surprised by who were the actual criminals.

Love Across Time by Helena Smrcek

I have never read anything by Helena Smrcek either. She is another author I hope to read more of. Love Across Time has a dual timeline – 40 years apart – World War II and current day. In a way this is a story of opposites attract because Nick and Joy seem to be polar opposites. They are the characters of the current day story. She is his real estate agent and he just purchased a house to fix up, turn into a B&B, and flip. The World War II characters are Beth and Gabriel – a nurse and a pilot serving in England during the war. The thing that joins the two stories is the love letters of Beth and Gabriel that Joy found in the attic of Nick’s house. I’d love to read more about these characters.

I’ll Be Home is an anthology of novellas written for the adult market. However I did not find anything that would keep it from being placed in a K-12 Christian school library. I would mark it for high school only.

I received a complimentary copy of I’ll Be Home. This is my honest review.
