My Kid Review
Guess Who is in God’s Family is a frame tale. Karen Ferguson starts the book with a granddaughter and grandfather looking at old photo albums. When Lucy starts asking questions, Papa Joe segues into the story of the first family, Adam and Eve.
Ferguson, in language children can easily understand, explains how we are all related to Adam and Eve. She also describes the Garden of Eden and what happened when Eve chose to disobey God.
While this is not a picture book, where the pictures drive the story, there is a full-sized illustration on each two-page spread of this picture storybook. The pictures do help children visualize the text. I love how some of the pictures of the Biblical part of the story include Papa Joe and Lucy – you could play a “Where’s Waldo?” type of game to find them.
Ferguson ends the book with Scripture passages, vocabulary, and discussion questions. This would be a great book to use in a homeschool curriculum.
Guess Who Is In God’s Family would make a great addition to a K-12 Christian school library. It is a good read-aloud for younger elementary students or read-alone for older ones.
