Summary

Faith, fame, and family collide as a Christian music power couple hides a secret discord.

Ezra Falconer’s career with his brothers’ band always took center stage while his shy wife Martha was content to play a supporting role in the background. That all changed when Martha’s hidden talent was discovered and she became a breakout singing star. Shedding her frumpy image, her old-timey name, and 100 extra pounds, she transformed into the sultry and sophisticated “Morgan.”

Ezra, grappling with his own career setbacks, struggles to reconcile the confident superstar with the unassuming woman he married.

Martha returns from a sell-out international tour to a marriage on shaky ground. Unprepared for the pressures of fame, she navigates new opportunities that threaten to pull her and her husband even further apart.

As they hide their crumbling marriage from family, friends and fans, Ezra and Martha are asked to collaborate on a charity album, forcing them to confront the growing silence between them. How can they rediscover harmony while they’re singing in different keys?

My Adult Review

The Rhapsody of Grace series with Small Town Harmony and the stories of the Falconer brothers. In this book, Holt focuses on Ezra and his wife Martha (or is it Morgan – her stage name).

Martha has been touring as singer Morgan. She has become very well-known, models lingerie, and has a perfume line releasing soon. Ezra is also a musician, currently as a songwriter, although he has performed in the past. They were both very active in their church at the start of their marriage. However, as her popularity grew, Martha strayed away from the church and seems to be listening more to worldly influences than Biblical ones.

Holt writes the plot so that Martha begins to see the truth about what Ezra has been saying – that her actions have become more risque than he feels comfortable with. A false accusation by a fellow songwriter brings the two closer together after some rough marriage patches. I love the redemption visible in this story.

I look forward to reading the continuing story of the Falconer family as Holt continues the Rhapsody of Grace series.

Small Town Harmony is written for the adult audience. I would recommend K-12 Christian school librarians read the book themselves to determine if it is appropriate for their audience. I would mark it high school only if I placed it in a school library.

I received a complimentary copy of Small Town Harmony. This is my honest review.
