As their relationship deepens, so does Lieutenant Gallagher’s hatred for the Christians in their city, putting all believers, especially Jesse, in extreme danger.
Meryn wants to give her heart to Jesse fully, but her past holds her back. Although circumstances conspire to keep her silent, she needs to tell him her secret so nothing will stand between them anymore.
But when he finds out what she has been keeping from him, nothing will ever be the same.

My Adult Review
Davison, Sarah. The Darkness Deepens. White Salmon, WA: Mountain Brook Ink, 2025.
The Day Draws Near series
The Darkness Deepens is the second book in Sarah Davison’s The Day Draws Near series. Set in the future, this series has a dystopian feel to it. When you think about recent events while reading this series, you can see that what the plot suggests really could be a possibility.
The Darkness Deepens starts about the time The End Begins ends.
The seemingly impossible romance between Jesse and Meryn continues and draws stronger in spite of the difficulty of spending time together and the dangers they face.
The book ends with a surprise and cliff hanger leaving me wanting to read book three to find out how it all plays out.
Davison is an excellent author and I try to never miss an opportunity to read one of her books.
There is nothing in The Darkness Deepens that would keep it from being placed in a K-12 Christian school library. It is an adult novel and at times the themes are intense so I would recommend labeling the book for high school only.
I received a complimentary copy of The Darkness Deepens. This is my honest review.
