Author Interview with Cindy Patterson

When did you first know you wanted to be an author? 

I have always enjoyed reading and writing poetry, but it wasn’t until I was in my early thirties that I decided I wanted to create a story through my own fictional characters and I finished a first draft of 100k words. 

When you are not writing, what other hats do you wear? What do you do for fun? 

My husband and I are partners of an Industrial Construction Company, so that keeps me busy. I am a mama to three grown children and a MiMi to one precious granddaughter. I love to cook and try new recipes. I enjoy spending time with my family. Spending time at the beach. My husband and I enjoy going to car shows. 

What is your favorite genre to read? What about that genre draws you? 

My mama introduced me to Jannette Oke’s, Love Comes Softly series and I have been hooked on Historical Romance ever since. I enjoy experiencing the way things were done in the past through reading. 

What is your favorite thing about this time of year? 

The beautiful weather. The flowers. The smell of grass being cut.

What historical figure do you admire and why? 

Queen Esther. Her willingness and bravery to sacrifice her own life to save the lives of all the Jews. 

How does your faith play out in your writing? 

My theme is “Happily-Ever-Afters that start with Jesus. I believe that fiction writing is a wonderful platform that can be used to show the love of Christ without being preachy. 

As a former K-12 school librarian(and since this blog is geared toward school librarians) I have to ask – what is your favorite children’s book? 

I love Winnie the Pooh. 

Young Author’s Days were an important part of my work as a school librarian. What advice would you give to a child or teen who wants to be a writer? 

Read as much as possible. Keep a journal. And just start writing.
