About the Author – Danielle Thorne
Danielle Thorne writes happily-ever-afters set in the South for Harlequin Love Inspired. A graduate of BYU-Idaho, she also writes stories about Regency ladies, pirates, and not-so-distressed damsels from her home south of Atlanta. Free time is filled with documentaries, too much yard work, and not enough travel. When not writing wholesome romances, Danielle hangs out with friends or chases cats. She enjoys the outdoors and serving in her church and community. Danielle’s been married to the same fellow for thirty years, has four sons, four bonus daughters and two grandbabies. She loves them more than life.
Author Interview – Daneille Thorne
When did you first know you wanted to be an author?
I was seven. Our first “big” handwriting assignment was to write a story on large tablet paper. I got carried away and wrote several pages. My teacher sent a note to my parents predicting my future. She was right.
When you are not writing, what other hats do you wear? What do you do for fun?
I consider my roles as a wife, mother, and grandmother my most important responsibilities. Writing comes second. Aside from those, I put on my ballcap and go exploring. I enjoy being outside and walking, running, hiking, or kayaking. Theme parks are my jam. My husband and I travel a few times a year and try to go overseas at least once annually. I love seeing new places and exploring the architecture, history, and cuisine. I also serve at church and on my local writing board.
What is your favorite genre to read? What about that genre draws you?
My favorite genre is historical or contemporary sweet romance. I like a bit of mystery, too. I’m drawn to relationships and soul-searching. Most of all, I need a happy ending in my stories because that’s the reason I escape.
What is your favorite thing about this time of year?
Fall just makes me feel good. I love going to the mountains to see the leaves changing and smell the campfire smoke. Eating a caramel apple is a tradition. I’ll drive 2 hours for one without apology. Dahlonega is my favorite mountain escape in Georgia.
What historical figure do you admire and why?
I appreciate so many men and women in history—those who explored, created art and literature, or fought for basic human rights. Someone I really admire is Maya Angelou. I read, “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings” at a young age while attending an inner city school, and it had a tremendous impact on me. She was a true lady full of love and wisdom who made a beautiful life from what could have been ashes. Her poetry is my favorite.
How does your faith play out in your writing?
I believe in Christ. I believe the human family is a deliberate and loving creation, and our lives are not random. We all have talents, whether they’re visible or behind the scenes, and regardless of our gifts, we have a responsibility to use them to make the world a better, more joyful place. Life is hard. I try to use my belief system to inspire others as they read my stories, or at the very least, give them a moment of escape that ends happily and offers hope for their challenges.
As a former K-12 school librarian(and since this blog is geared toward school librarians) I have to ask – what is your favorite children’s book?
I have to choose one? My favorite children’s book is a tie between Charlotte’s Web and Stuart Little. I read them when I was young, and I read them to my children when they were little. I also loved The Great Brain series by John D. Fitzgerald, and I’m surprised how many people haven’t heard of it.
Young Author’s Days were an important part of my work as a school librarian. What advice would you give to a child or teen who wants to be a writer?
Look up—to your teachers, other writers, and good books. It’s great to have listeners and encouragers, but if you want to write you need a mentor who can guide you along the way and help you learn beyond traditional English and Literature classes. Break stories down into parts and learn and study those pieces.
Never be intimidated to pickup a novel writing book just because you don’t understand all of the concepts or vocabulary yet. And write, write, write. Writing is learning, but remember to put your ego aside and study the method. Talent helps, but knowledge and hard work will trump it every time.

Sounds like a book I would enjoy.
This sounds like a great book! Love the cover!
Thank you for sharing your interview, bio and the book details, I have enjoyed reading about you and your work and I am looking forward to reading your story
thanks for the interview. Oh my I loved Charlotte’s Web. I even had a runt piglet on the farm. But I named him squeak because every time he wanted to go out and do his business or come back in, he would rub his snout up and down on the sliding glass door. LOL He became a 400+ lb. boar that gave great little piglets.
That’s so funny! I can hardly handle a couple cats!
Danielle’s writing several pages for her story at age 7 makes me smile.
This sounds like a really good book.
