My Kid Review
Lopez, Richard. Looking for a Leprechaun. Illustrated by Edixon Rodriguez. NP: Just Bear With Us, 2023.
Looking for a Leprechaun by Richard Lopez is a picture book about mindset and positive thinking. It is a great way to teach children to look at themselves and not listen to their negative thoughts or the negative things others are saying.
Rich feels like he doesn’t belong anywhere. On the advice of a fairy he heads out to find a leprechaun. Every place he goes he hears voices indicating he doesn’t belong so he keeps going. When he sees the fairy again, she tells him that his mind can play tricks on him and to focus on other voices that will help him find where he belongs.
I didn’t really care for the style of Edixon Rodriguez’s illustrations. They match the text fairly well but I think that some of them might be too scary for young children.
I think that K-12 Christian school librarians should check Looking for a Leprechaun out for themselves to determine if it is right for their audience.
I received a complimentary copy of Looking for a Leprechaun. This is my honest review.
