Summary
Penny goes from pre-verbal to loquacious in just a matter of hours! Which is exactly how it feels when a child begins to speak! One minute she is making sounds, the next minute she is talking your head off! Penelope is “pensive” as she ponders how to get her new words out into the world and heard! Filled with delightful rhyme and rhythm, this book helps expose the youngest readers to the magic of language, and encourages older readers to think about new words with Penelope, all while celebrating! Penny has found her voice!

My Kid Review
I love Pensive Penelope Thinks About Words. It is a great story about a baby/toddler discovering words. The story is written in rhyme which littles enjoy.
One thing I wasn’t sure about is that Penelope seems to start talking all at once which is not usually how children start talking. I’d rather see the text be a little more realistic but the author may have chosen to write it the way she did to shorten the story line.
The illustrations by Linden Eller are child-like and add to the appeal of the book. They help children visualize what is happening in the text.
There is nothing in Pensive Penelope Thinks About Words to prevent it from being added to a K-12 Christian school library. The audience for the book, however, is more toddlers and preschoolers.
I received a complimentary copy of Pensive Penelope Thinks About Words. This is my honest review.
