My Kid Review

I love Squirrels in Antarctica  and I think kids will as well. On each page author Sari Karplus takes an animal and places it in an unusual location doing a silly thing. Kids will enjoy the silliness of the story.

Todd Wilkerson’s illustrations add to the silliness of the book. They compliment the text well and accentuate the silliness of the text.

While Squirrels in Antarctica is written for preschool and primary-aged children, I can see uses at all levels. Both elementary and secondary teachers could use the book as an example and encourage students to write their own story based on the style of Squirrels in Antarctica. Younger students could write and illustrate a page in a class book using animals they have studied in class.

Squirrels in Antarctica would be a great addition to the picture book section of a K-12 Christian school library. It would also be a good title for a classroom or home library.

I received a complimentary copy of Squirrels in Antarctica. This is my honest review.

Meet the Author – Sari Karplus:

Sari Karplus got her storytelling start as a comedian and filmmaker in Los Angeles. But when an improvised bedtime story to her three young children inspired her first kids’ book, she officially joined the ranks of the book writing world. Sari loves to create stories with fun journeys and teachable moments… with a healthy side of humor. Sari has written all 3 books of the Robotastic! series. “Sari” rhymes with “Mary.” Sari loves rhyming.

    1. As a former K-12 librarian I’m always looking for ways to use books across the ages. My daughter who teaches 5th grade is excited about the possibilities with her students.
