MS Review – Windy City Ruins – young adult fantasy

Salter, Brett. Windy City Ruins, 2018.
The Talisman series, book 3

Summary of Windy City Ruins

It’s just a simple trip to New York. What could possibly happen to our loveable heroes THIS time? Faster-than-sound reptiles? Exploding Minotaurs? Generational secrets coming back to haunt them? Expect the unexpected in this third installment of The Talisman Series, “Windy City Ruins”. The war for Earth is creeping steadily closer, and Rome’s team is in a mad dash to figure out the Talismans before it’s too late. Can they amass enough talent to help them defend the realm? Or will The Tyrant King’s heinous minions sweep them off course and leave Earth ready for the taking? Windy City Ruins is the third installment of the Talisman Series.

My MS Review of Windy City Ruins

I love it when an author has created such memorable characters and plot line that I can pick the next book in a series, and remember exactly what is going on when I read the first page. When I review series I often recommend that authors include a summary of previous books in order to help readers remember what previously happened. While I do think it would be a good idea, I did not find this to be necessary in Salter’s book 3 of The Talisman series.

Windy City Ruins picks up right where Riders of Fire and Ice left off. Julian and Rome are tracking down more creatures from the Void and finding new alliances in their quest. Mrs. Case, Mr. Jones, Camela, and Krysta all join the boys at various points of their journey. Camela and Julian are faced with evidence that their parents have not told them the whole truth about their family and The Great Synergy. The story is full of adventure and battles between good and evil. It may just be the perfect title to get a reluctant middle schooler to read.

I was left with a feeling of what’s going to happen next, so I can’t wait to read the next book.

Because the character list includes a sorceress as well as dark creatures, I encourage K-12 Christian school librarians to read the book for themselves to determine if the book is appropriate for their audience.

I received a complimentary copy of Windy City Ruins. This is my honest review.
