Summary
In a strange part of the forest, the divide between worlds grows thin.
After the accident, Meg would do anything to wake her best friend from his deadly coma. At least, that’s what she whispered into the woodland shadows. She never imagined her wish would trap her in a gray other-earth, void of any color.
Meg’s vibrant humanity is a priceless artifact in the gray kingdom, coveted by the royal court. All she wants to do is find a way back home. Until she discovers the other-earth contains healing powers that can save her friend. But only if Meg becomes what the gray people need—a human bride for Kalmus, the powerful king of the capital city.
With her heart torn between earths, Meg’s choices may cost more than she knows.

My YA Review
Rachelle Nelson is a new author to me, but I don’t think this will be the last time I read one of her books. The story is well-written, the fantasy world well-developed, and the characters are ones that readers will care about.
Nelson imagines a world that parallels ours but has no color of its own. Each inhabitant of the other Earth possesses a gift which can be enhanced by color. The king has learned to use his gift to pull colored gems from the colored earth. The inhabitants also believe that a prophecy promises a human from the colored earth will marry the king of the gray earth. Two giants from the gray earth have been waiting in the “in between” for decades for a “thin space” to open up so that a human girl will enter their kingdom.
When she discovers that she has been called to a different place and cannot return home, Meg encounters all the emotions you might imagine. But in the back of her mind she hopes to be able to save the boy she loves who was seriously wounded.
The story ends with an epilogue which takes place 5 years after the last chapter. I’d like to see the author write a book that covers those five years – I have so many questions about what happened during that time.
Sky of Seven Colors would be a great addition to the fantasy section of a K-12 Christian school library. It is appropriate for older middle school and high school students.
I received a complimentary copy of Sky of Seven Colors. This is my honest review.
