Summary – Mountains of the Gods

More enemies than he can handle…

Akuleh—Ku to his friends—has completed primary flight school and has reached his operational squadron, but a terrifying foe awaits. The Supremacy, an unbeatable enemy who kills its prisoners in horrifying ways, continues to advance across the galaxy, capturing one ally world after another and the resistance seems unable to stop them.

Worse, though, is the enemy who wants his soul. Machitew, death demon of his people’s ancient tales, continues to wrestle for control of Ku’s destiny, tormenting him with prescient glimpses of losing his friends and fellow pilots in combat—people Ku has no way to save.

But when he gets shot down behind enemy lines, Ku has an encounter that will not only alter his role in the war but change the course of his life.

My Review of Mountains of the Gods

D.T. Read is a new-to-me author. Mountains of the Gods is a military science fiction title.

Since it is the second book in the series, it starts in the middle of things assuming the reader has read book 1. I had not, so I was lost for the first 15-20% of the book. It would have been helpful to have a synopsis of the previous book and a list of characters and their role in the story.

The book is heavily based in Shamanism. There is much about the religious aspects of the book that remind me of the traditional animistic views of many Native American tribes. I was disappointed by the sexual innuendos and sexual tension that was used in part of the book to move the plot forward.

While the concept of the book is an interesting one, I cannot recommend the book because of my concerns.

I received a complimentary copy of Mountains of the Gods. This is my honest review.
