Summary

The Seed’s Price by Erica M. Elliott is a Christian fantasy adventure for children and part of the Gold Feather Gardeners series.

Sisters Maya and Everly search for their missing cat, and their journey leads them to a mysterious boy living alone in the woods. Unsure whether they can trust him, the girls soon discover that a special seed may connect the boy to the answers they are seeking. But using the seed could require a sacrifice they never expected.

Woven into the adventure is a thoughtful exploration of faith—especially what it means to trust God when we don’t know what will happen next. Through Maya and Everly’s experiences, young readers encounter ideas such as listening for God’s direction, showing compassion to others, resisting distractions, and holding onto hope during difficult circumstances.

Rather than simply explaining faith to children, The Seed’s Price gives them a story that shows what trusting God might look like when the outcome is uncertain.

My MS Review

Since I hadn’t read previous books in the series, I really could have used a synopsis of the earlier books. I felt lost at times until I better understood the plotline (which started in previous books).

Erin Greneaux has crafted a good story which feels a bit like a Biblical allegory. Two sisters, Everly and Maya, meet the Gardener (who seems like God the Father) and Golden Eagle (who seems like Jesus). They are learning to trust them through everyday circumstances. They also meet Clara, the garden fairy (who is maybe like the Holy Spirit). Then there is Deceptra, who is mentioned but not a character in the story (who is like Satan).

In this book, the sisters encounter Trey, who appears to be living in the forest, and lose their beloved cat Boomerang. They both have to analyze what they are focusing on when the Gardener gives them a job to do. Everly also must decide who she is going to trust.

I think I’d like to see a one-volume compilation of all the books once Greneaux has finished the series. This would help with the story’s continuity.

The Eagle’s Promise could make a good addition to a K-12 Christian school library. It is appropriate for elementary students.

I received a complimentary copy of The Seed’s Price. This is my honest review.
