Summary

Why can’t Christmas be as comfortable as a pair of warm, fuzzy socks?

Christmas. It’s all beautifully wrapped presents, yummy food, and loved ones curled up by the fire in matching jammies with mugs of hot chocolate. Right?

Wrong. Sure, life has its ups and downs. But somehow the holidays make obstacles more daunting, family drama more dramatic, and letting go of the past and moving forward like trudging through deep snow in the middle of a raging blizzard.

The men and women in these five stories know all about that. They’ve experienced so much heartache, betrayal, and abandonment that peace, joy, and even home feel about as far away as the North Pole.

So if warm socks and flickering flames can’t offer true comfort this Christmas, could something—or Someone—else?

“If the Sock Fits” by Candace West
“Wrappings” by Deb Elkink
“Home for Christmas” by Stacy Monson part of the When Valleys Mourn series
“Fleeing Darkness, Finding Light” by Eleanor Bertin
“Don’t Call Me Sugar” by Sara Davison – part of the In the Shadows series

My Adult Review

I look forward to every anthology by this group of ladies. Every story of theirs hits some note in my life. Whether it is not having the holidays look the way I would like, helping a child who has problems at home, or wanting to make the holidays special for someone who wouldn’t otherwise have a happy day. Some stories make me evaluate what I am doing in my life, and others encourage me to keep going on the path in front of me.

Two of the stories in this anthology are part of a series – it was fun to learn more about the characters I learned to love when reading the rest of the series. While reading the other books did help build understanding of the characters, I think you can enjoy the stories in the anthology without reading the books.

When I finished reading the stories that aren’t part of a series, I found myself thinking, “I wonder what happens next.” Maybe the authors will tell us more about those characters in future stories.

Fuzzy Socks and Firelight was written for an adult audience, but nothing in the stories would keep the book from being added to a K-12 Christian school library. It is appropriate for high schoolers.

I received a complimentary copy of Fuzzy Socks and Firelight. This is my honest review.
